Keeping A Positive Mindset

The benefits of a positive mindset are obvious. When you are thinking positively – have a positive attitude – you are happier and less stressed. You have a better outlook of the future. That’s all well and good – I’m sure you already know that.  But, what is sometimes easier said than done is keeping a positive mindset.

Life happens. Disappointments come up. You don’t get the results you were after. So, how do you keep a positive mindset when you don’t feel very positive? I have a few suggestions that have helped me in these times.

So, that’s all well and good – right?  But, how do you keep a positive mindset when you aren’t feeling very positive?

I have taken the examples in that video and adapted the ideas into a strategy that helps:

1. Start by thinking of everything you’re currently experiencing (try to focus on positive things like – you have 24 hours a day to do with what you choose) and find those that you are grateful for. Your list is  your own. Sincerely find gratefulness in your heart for as many things you can think of.  Even when you are feeling discouraged, there are things in your life that you can be grateful for.

2.  Make a list of the things you’re grateful for. I have found that actually writing those things down – yes, with a pencil or pen on an actual piece of paper – is better than using any sort of electronic means. There is a connection between the act of physically writing those things down.  Then, keep them where you can see them every morning.

3. Habitually read the list every morning when you get up and every night before you go to bed.  This may sound ridiculous, but I’m serious – it helps to keep your mindset in a positive state. Eventually, you will not need to look at the list – you will just feel grateful most of the time.

4. This is a process that takes time, but it works.
