I’m just a regular person…. with a set of unique experiences – just like you. A good part of my life was spent concentrating on my career. My climb up the corporate ladder though, turned out to have been a lot of hard work without the results I imagined. When I reached what I thought was the pinnacle of success, I realized that it wasn’t really what I wanted at all. I had been so focused on ‘making it’ that I neglected the things I held most important – my identity, my time, my family, my values. When I finally realized that most of my life had been wasted, I felt like I was drowning with no life line – stuck in a world that really wasn’t a match for me.
When you’re distressed by anything, it’s more common than you might think to get caught up in it and feel like there is no solution. I discovered that there is always a way, but sometimes you just need to look at it from another angle.
I’ve come through some pretty significant challenges in my life. Of course, there are some who have been through worse and others who have been more fortunate. In any case, my experience has shown me that there is always a solution – perhaps just not an obvious one – and, I’m so grateful for those who have helped me see answers when I couldn’t see them on my own. I created this blog in an effort to be there for you in that way too.

From my major in college to my eventual career path, I did what everyone else wanted me to do. The price was high. There comes a time when you don’t know who you are anymore. I’ve been fortunate to have married a man who supported me and was willing to stay home and raise our son while I spent my time at the office. We’ve been married for 38+ years now. They haven’t been easy years for either of us, but we stayed the course and I’m grateful for that.
The ironic thing is that after working 70-80 hours a week, so focused on my role at work, I was fired (the circumstances behind this action were not of my own doing – but, that’s another story). I was unemployed for about a year. As I said, my career was my entire life. I was devastated at the time and went through a period of grieving, but it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. I not only survived but I found myself again and learned to be a better me.
Have you ever felt the panic of feeling that your world is crashing around you and there’s nothing you can do? I know what that feels like – and, I can assure you, there is something you can do about it. Sometimes it’s just a matter of the way you think about your situation.
When you grasp and really understand that you have the ability to control yourself – even re-invent yourself – you’ll know that there are things you can do to address any problem you have. That’s when you find hope!

Because I know what it feels like to be in the midst of big problems and have no answers, I want to help others who are struggling.
My parents didn’t show much affection as I grew up. They provided all of the necessities of life, but I never truly felt understood. I sometimes go overboard to make sure that anyone with whom I communicate understands me and my point of view. I don’t expect agreement necessarily – just understanding. And, I respect and believe in your individuality in the same way – seeking to better understand. I’ve discovered that the most interesting (and sometimes painful) journey is seeking to understand yourself.
I also love to learn and I think I always have. I search out new experiences and enjoy meeting new people.
